Welcome to SoCa — South of Careenage

Nestled just south of the historic Bridgetown Careenage, SoCa is more than a place — it’s a movement. Inspired by the rhythm and spirit of one of the Caribbean’s most iconic cities, SoCa — short for South of the Careenage — is a cultural proposal to reimagine the stretch of Bridgetown from Independence Square to Drill Hall Beach as a bold new creative district.

Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has long stood as a beacon of trade, heritage, and resilience. With the Careenage as its historic harbor — once vital for commerce and community — this district is now writing its next chapter. SoCa rises alongside national efforts to transform the capital. With projects like the New Pier Head Marina and the Hyatt Ziva Hotel reshaping the southern cityscape, SoCa aims to ensure that soul, creativity, and community remain front and center. This is the place where past meets possibility.

Much like SoHo in New York — named for its location South of Houston Street — SoCa hopes to become a name that reflects a shared vision: a district that’s vibrant, expressive, and unmistakably Bajan. While SoCa is still a proposal, it’s a growing invitation — for local businesses, artists, creatives, and residents to help shape what comes next. We imagine SoCa as Bridgetown’s creative and cultural heartbeat — where heritage meets the future.

SoCa will be:

  • A canvas for local artists
  • A marketplace for Caribbean fashion and ideas
  • A neighborhood to live, create, and belong
  • A stage for food, music, and storytelling
  • A district that reflects what Barbados has always been: bold, soulful, and original
